BURLINGTON, VT -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 04/17/09 -- Pioneering corporate responsibility organization Ceres announced today that Seventh Generation, the country's top brand of non-toxic, environmentally safe consumer products, has been awarded its 2009 Award for Best Small to Medium-Sized Enterprise Sustainability Report.

The honor is part of the 2009 Ceres-ACCA North American Awards for Best Sustainability Reporting. Now in their eighth year, the awards recognize best practices in corporate social and environmental reporting and are designed to highlight those reports that provide leadership by example to organizations considering publishing reports of their own. The winning reports exemplify the values of full transparency and honest disclosure of the full costs of a company's social and environmental impacts.

Published in 2008, Seventh Generation's award-winning Corporate Consciousness Report details the company's quest to create a new business model that moves beyond mere sustainability and into a regenerative state in which its practices and products work to restore environmental and social systems. The report offers an insightful update on that work and reflects on the many complexities the firm has faced as it confronts the challenges of engineering meaningful change on a broad scale.

Ceres also recognized Seventh Generation's innovative communications, which connect its customers and other stakeholders to its reporting efforts via an internet "e-book" that uses video, blogging, and links to the company's website that together serve to involve the public in its visionary work.

"We're obviously extremely honored by the Ceres award," said Seventh Generation President and Chief Inspired Protagonist Jeffrey Hollender. "We invested a lot of ourselves in our report, and it's very rewarding to have that work recognized. More importantly, the award draws attention to what I see as the business community's most important task, which is to move beyond a standard that says we will do less or negligible harm and into a world in which the activities of every business serve to actually enhance the living systems it depends on. That's the message we ultimately want our report to send."
