Frito-Lay, a subsidiary of Pepsi Co, Inc. (NYSE: PEP), is the world's largest convenience food company. Frito-Lay has implemented a successful company-wide energy-efficiency and water conservation effort for its 44 manufacturing plants and 193 distribution centers in the U.S. and Canada. Frito-Lay has been an ENERGY STAR Partner since 2003.

The convenience food company is well on the way to meeting its five-year goals for saving water, fuel and electricity. Since the program's inception in 1999, Frito-Lay has already met nearly fifty-percent for each of the respective targets. The company attributes this progress to capital projects, process re-design, and focused awareness and training programs. In addition, more than 150 of the company's sites boast energy-efficient lighting.

Annual facilities energy audits and an energy summit attended by over 250 employees allow the company to disseminate best practices throughout the organization. Frito-Lay has also committed to process re-design, focused awareness and training programs and strategic capital projects.

Frito-Lay received a 2003 Star of Energy Efficiency award from the Alliance to Save Energy.
