HUDSON, Ohio, Feb. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In honor of International Corporate Philanthropy Day, Jo-Ann Stores, Inc. announces that the company donated $656,000 in cash and products to non-profit organizations in 2008. Additionally, Jo-Ann customers and Team Members again displayed their generosity, donating through individual contributions and company-sponsored fundraisers, bringing total 2008 giving to more than $767,000.
"We are pleased to be able to make a difference in our communities," said Darrell Webb, chief executive officer. "Our support last year helped educate the public about heart disease, provide supplies to teachers and help families cope with childhood illnesses."
Examples of 2008 giving include:
-- Education - Supporting education continues to be a focus for Jo-Ann as $25,000 went to sponsor the Kids In Need Foundation's Teacher Grant program. Jo-Ann also rewarded hundreds of teachers through its annual Teacher Appreciation Day and product donations for the Kids In Need Resource Centers throughout the country.
