Globe Awards For Enviromental Excellence - All Applications Are In - This Year's Nominees Include Canada's Most Prestigious Companies

VANCOUVER, B.C. -- Some of Canada's most high profile and respected businesses are being considered for the 4th Annual GLOBE Awards. The coveted awards are presented to companies and industry groups that have demonstrated leadership in sustainable business strategies and turned them into competitive advantages in the marketplace. The awards will be presented on May 27, 2005 in Toronto at the EECO 2005 Environment and Energy Conference.

The list of previous winners of the GLOBE awards reads like a who's who of the Canadian environmental business community. This year's nominees include such prestigious companies as Canadian Pacific Railway, General Motors Canada, Alcan Inc., TransAlta Corporation, Purolator Courier Ltd., RBRC: Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corp., Cleantech Venture Network LLC, and The Ethical Funds Company.

Past winners include Toyota Canada, Canadian Urban Transit Association, Xantrex Technology Inc., and Carmanah Technologies Inc. The awards are sponsored by The Globe and Mail and the GLOBE Foundation of Canada.

Businesses with a track record of environmental innovation can enter the GLOBE Awards for Environmental Excellence in one of five categories:

  • The Corporate Competitiveness Award
  • The Industry Association Award for Environmental Performance
  • The Corporate Award for Technology Innovation and Application
  • The Capital Markets Awards for Sustainable Investment and Banking
  • The Award for Excellence in Brownfield Redevelopment
