The death toll from the tsunami made 2004 the deadliest year for earthquakes in five centuries, the US Geological Survey said on February 10th, 2005. The agency estimated the death toll from the December 26 tsunami at 285,950. Millions more have been severely affected. The rebuilding and rehabilitation efforts may take years before bringing normalcy back into peoples' lives.
