SUN PRAIRIE, WI - January 29, 2008 "“ The Paper Mill Store .com (thepapermillstore.com) announced today that as of January 1, 2008, it has offset 100% of the carbon emissions produced by its outbound product shipping through the purchase of carbon offset credits from Carbonfund.org, one of the country’s leading carbon offset organizations. The company estimates that this offset purchase will reduce carbon output by as much as 115 tons per year. The Paper Mill Store’s carbon neutral shipping includes every shipment from its Wisconsin facilities and is offered at no additional charge to customers.
This commitment solidifies The Paper Mill Store's (TPMS) position as a sustainable business practice leader in online paper distribution and demonstrates its commitment to a healthier and cleaner environment. The carbon offset credits purchased by TPMS will support the generation of renewable wind energy. "We began using 100% wind power for our electricity needs through the purchase of renewable energy credits back in 2006, and this newest carbon offset initiative is a natural extension of that commitment," says Brian J. Cowie, C.E.O. and founder of The Paper Mill Store.
TPMS currently uses Green-e certified wind energy to meet the electricity needs in all of its facilities. In addition, TPMS is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody (CoC) certified and is currently participating in the process for SFI CoC-certification (Sustainable Forestry Initiative).
"The Paper Mill Store sets a truly high standard for sustainability that every paper company should aspire to," said Eric Carlson, Executive Director of Carbonfund.org. "We are delighted to help them grow even more environmentally responsible by offsetting the emissions from product shipping."
