HUDSON, OH "“ April 17, 2006 "“ Ecofuture, a Hudson, Ohio based startup announced today the launch of The Bulb (www.thebulb.com), a new brand of Energy Star certified light bulbs with a carbon footprint of ZERO. Ecofuture offsets all CO2 emissions generated from the use of each light bulb (over the entire life of the bulb - up to 10,000 hours) through a donation to Carbonfund.org, making The Bulb the world's only CarbonFree™ light bulb.

How it works "“ You Do Your Part, We'll Do Ours
Light bulbs use electricity, which comes from power plants. Those power plants burn coal, petroleum, and natural gas, all of which result in CO2 emissions. As a result, using light bulbs causes CO2 emissions, the number one man-made greenhouse gas. Using energy efficient light bulbs is a simple and effective way to cut down on power plant related CO2 emissions. Energy Star certified compact fluorescent light bulbs, like The Bulb, are over 75% more energy efficient than normal (incandescent) light bulbs and as a result, are responsible for more than 75% less CO2 emissions. However, all compact fluorescent light bulbs use electricity (albeit less), which still results in CO2 emissions. That's where The Bulb comes in. Ecofuture donates to offset the CO2 emissions generated from using each of their light bulbs for its entire life (up to 10,000 hours) through a contribution to Carbonfund.org.

"Selling products that are inherently good for the environment is great, but being accountable for their negative impact on the environment is even better. That's how businesses can make a real difference", said Michael Caspar, Founder of Ecofuture.

About Carbon Offsetting "“ Reduce What You Can, Offset What You Can't™
In recent years, purchasing carbon offsets has become a popular way for individuals and businesses to decrease their carbon footprint. Carbon offsets zero out CO2 emissions from one source by reducing the emissions from another. For example, in the case of The Bulb, Carbonfund.org uses offset funds to support renewable energy projects such as wind, solar, or bio-methane projects that reduce CO2. While The Bulb users will be reducing their energy use, for what they still do use, they will offset their use via clean, renewable energy.

"This is what it's all about!" said Eric Carlson, Executive Director of Carbonfund.org. "The Bulb epitomizes the Carbonfund.org approach toward climate change of reduce what you can, offset what you can't™. We hope this CarbonFree™ product certification will lead other companies to take a similar approach with their products and services."

By combining carbon offsetting with a product like CFLs, Ecofuture is giving consumers an opportunity to use a product to help significantly reduce their carbon footprint, while showing great social responsibility by offsetting the CO2 emissions that their light bulbs generate, a one-two punch in the fight against global warming.
