SILVER SPRING, MD - March 6, 2007 - AIGA, the professional association for design, has offset all of its annual carbon dioxide emissions with Carbonfund.org. This offset marks the second time that AIGA has chosen Carbonfund.org for its offset needs.

Working with Carbonfund.org, AIGA was able to determine the CO2 emissions it was responsible for from employee travel and its offices. These emissions will be offset by supporting a reforestation project in Nepal that will permanently sequester CO2 from the atmosphere. This project uses the funding to plant beneficial fruit and nut trees as well as native species on agricultural land.

In addition, AIGA is undertaking an outreach campaign to help its members reduce their own emissions. This is particularly important because it continues to spread the message about climate change as well as show how easy and affordable it is to do something about it.

"Sustainability has become a term-of-art for advancing economic activity while ensuring that we can sustain our initiatives in a sometimes fragile world without harming the future’s potential," said Richard Grefé, executive director of AIGA.

"AIGA has made a real and lasting commitment to reducing its impact," stated Eric Carlson, executive director of Carbonfund.org. "They are taking responsibility for their emissions and encouraging their members to do the same, and we are proud they’ve chosen to work with us for two years in a row."
