Amberjac Projects Battery Systems Help JCB Streamliner to 350mph

Amberjac Projects Limited, a company in the United Kingdom, wish to congratulate Andy Green and the JCB Dieselmax team on their momentous 350mph world landspeed record attempt success.

Amberjac Projects developed and built the battery systems and chargers for the JCB Streamliner.

The team decided not to use an alternator to provide electrical power due to the reduction in engine power caused by an alternator under high load. The electrical systems, fuel pump, turbo waste, and ancillary equipment demand a very high current draw from the battery system for a sustained period over the speed runs. The environment that the battery system had to survive would be considered an abuse condition for many battery systems and the safety problems associated with traditional Lithium Ion batteries precluded their use.

Safety, high temperature capability and high current handling were the critical criteria and we are one of only a few companies in the world that could offer a suitable solution, especially in the time frame of 10 weeks from the initial meeting.

"This is further validation of our capability as a company to develop and produce high performance safe Lithium ion systems for automotive applications" said Managing Director Simon Sheldon "and demonstrates that the era of high power Lithium solutions has arrived, even for the toughest of applications such as breaking records. Although we only played a small part in building this vehicle it was nevertheless a critical part of the whole vehicle system. The JCB achievement is further proof of British engineering capability and is a triumph for all of those involved in the project."

Amberjac Projects Limited develop and manufacture advanced Lithium Ion solutions for electric vehicles, hybrid electric vehicles and plug in hybrid electric vehicles. Each solution is a complete integrated custom system designed for each vehicle application and, being independent from the battery cell manufacturers, Amberjac Projects can select the best battery technology for each application and then deliver a complete plug and play solution.

Amberjac Projects is getting ready to supply the first 10 plug in hybrid conversion for the Toyota Prius in October 2006 with further vehicles to be supplied towards the end of 2006.

Further developments include the production of a hyper-performance electric sports car conversion towards the end of 2006 and a medium size family car electric conversion for early 2007. There is also a plan to offer an electric converted van sized delivery vehicle/mini-bus to satisfy requests from companies looking towards transport solutions for the 2012 Olympic games to be held in the UK.

Sheldon also says "We are in discussions with several of the EV and HEV players in Europe and the US concerning supplying our HEV and EV battery solutions for some major projects, this is a significant step forward in our business plan and confirms that we are providing the correct answers to our clients battery issues."
