HAWTHORNE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 27, 2006--Cereplast(TM), Inc. (OTCBB:CERP), a producer of proprietary bio-based resins used as a substitute for petroleum-based plastics, today reports that the company's significant November achievements continue to build forward momentum. Cereplast was formally recognized on the shortlist for the first-ever international Bioplastics Awards from European Plastics News. The company was also awarded the State of Massachusetts procurement contract for bio-based plastics products made from Cereplast resins.
On the Bioplastics Awards shortlist, Cereplast joins international bioplastics leaders in processing, applications, marketing and retail. As a showcase for bioplastics innovation, these first-ever awards seek to recognize the people, producers and companies at the vanguard of sustainable product offerings. Winners will be announced December 6 at the 8th Annual Bioplastics global conference in Frankfurt, Germany.
Earlier in November, Cereplast was awarded the Commonwealth of Massachusetts State contract GR020, for the purchase of products made with Cereplast's bio-based resins. The contract provides biodegradable foodservice products that comply with the Biodegradable Product Institute (BPI) standards. The foodservice products are made from Cereplast's bio-based resins.
"The Bioplastic Awards recognition is significant not only for Cereplast and others on the shortlist, but also for the industry and the sustainable products movement as a whole," said Frederic Scheer, Cereplast's CEO. "There is growing leadership and dedication at all levels--from consumers, industries, and local, state and federal governments--to reduce our negative impact on the environment and public health. The Bioplastics Awards make clear that there's a sea-change in the plastics industry. Some companies have run from it, others have been testing the waters, and still others, such as Cereplast, have completely immersed themselves in years of dedicated research and development of alternative plastics."
The Bioplastics Awards is organized by leading pan-European trade magazine European Plastics News to help develop markets and applications for bioplastics. Bioplastics 2006 is the longest standing global conference for the bioplastics sector and has provided an independent perspective on this fast-moving marketplace.
