Fundación Televisa, philantropic organization of the media giant in Mexico, Grupo Televisa, has donated 200 thousand pesos (about 20,000 usd) to Flora, Fauna y Cultura de México A.C. (FFMAC) for the conservation program of marine turtles that it has run for ten years.

The donation took place at an unparalleled scenario: the public and massive release of marine turtle hatchlings on the beaches of Xcacel-Xcacelito, sanctuary of the marine turtle in Quintana Roo, organized by the FFMAC along with the local authorities and other twenty enterprises. This free event invited more than three thousand inhabitants of the region and tourists to release more than two thousand little turtles.

In view of the success this event has had among the locals, Miguel Quintana Pali, general director of Park Xcaret and permanent sponsor of the FFMAC said "it is in events like this when we are able to see the fruits of people's constant work".

He also referred to the reasons Xcaret had to support this cause "It is something we started to do even before the park opened; my familiy and some of the founding members have always loved nature, so we wanted to preserve something that was disappearing, but it was something that came out naturally. It's wonderful to see such an event, prepared by the community for the community, this is something that makes our own lives longer. We feel very happy".

Guadalupe Quintana, FFMAC director said "this event closes the nesting season and it also gives end to the Fourth Festival of Marine Turtles. We all play our part: civil organizations, government, enterprises and hotels, to disseminate this effort and create an infrastructure for the community regardless of the social levels. Thanks to all who have worked in this project, it is an event that creates awareness, that is why we do it."

The top moment was when Fundación Televisa, Selva Negra A.C. -organization supported by the Mexican rock band Maná-, and Luis Orozco -from the Televisa TV show "Otro Rollo"- presented the donation check. Gabriel Altamirano, director of the foundation said that the relationship between Fundación Televisa and FFMAC came out "thanks to Selva Negra, the organization owned by Maná, who we have worked with in favor of several causes like the construction of housing, concerts in favor of the victims of natural disasters and to help marine turtles. This is a first donation of 200 thousand pesos (almost 20 thousand dollars) that we hope will get to be more. We have the plan of making a special show with Maná and Otro Rollo to raise funds for the marine turtles."
