Earth Day New York today presented Shaklee Corporation with the Earth Day 2000 Environmental Business Leadership Award. The presentation took place during the opening ceremony of Earth Fair 2000 in New York City's Historic Battery Park.
"Shaklee's Climate Neutral certification represents a groundbreaking development in the U.S. corporate community's response to tackling global climate change," said Charles L. Orr, President and CEO of Shaklee Corporation, upon accepting the award. "We are honored by Earth Day New York's recognition of our achievement."
Earth Day New York, a founding member of the national organization Earth Day Network, began its environmental mission with the first Earth Day celebration in 1970. Since 1998, the organization has annually recognized environmental excellence in four categories: Public Official of the Year; Environmental Business Leadership; Excellence in Environmental Journalism; and Activist of the Year.
