Telefónica has published its 2005 Corporate Responsibility Report, available at http://www.telefonica.es/corporateresponsibility/

The report seeks answers to four questions:

Does Telefónica drive economic progress?

  • Telefónica's activity represents 1.7% of GDP in the countries where it operates...

  • ...redistributing 51 billion euro in 2005 among its stakeholders (45% to suppliers, 16% to public administrations, 8% to employees...)

  • 85% of Telefónica purchases were awarded to local suppliers in each country.

  • Communication had a negative evolution of prices in the last five years in Spain.

    Does Telefónica drive technological progress?

  • Over 2.9 billion euros invested in technological innovation, 533 million of which was directly in R&D

  • Over 6,800 people collaborating in R&D for Telefónica

  • Collaboration with 100 Universities through scholarships and research.

    Does Telefónica drive social progress?

  • 25% of its fixed lines in Latin America belong to low-income families (5.5 million lines)

  • 54 million euro invested in non-for-profit social activities

  • 30 products and services specifically designed for disabled people, as part of the Telefónica Accessible project.

    Does Telefónica engage with its stakeholders?

  • Telefónica has applied new dialogue methodology with 4 stakeholders in 2006.

  • Telefónica shows high customer satisfaction levels in all countries, including 84% in Spain.

  • Employee satisfaction increased from 55% in 2004 to 59% in 2005.

  • Supplier average satisfaction level is 67%

    Telefónica considers all its Spanish and Latin American activities in its 2005 report, which includes over 36 new CR challenges for this year, including alignment of CR reporting with O2, which Telefónica acquired early in 2006.

    The Telefónica report was externally verified by Ernst & Young considering GRI indicator verification and AA1000AS assurance standards. The report includes an executive summary of 32 pages and is available in English and Spanish.
