Anglo American to Join SABMiller, Intel, Citigroup and Unilever to Debate Responsible Business Strategies for Emerging Economies

Leading western corporations and companies from emerging economie will gather to debate how to successfully expand into lucrative new markets at the Responsible Business in Emerging Markets Summit, set to take place in London 9th-10th of October.

LONDON - September 4, 2007 - Anglo American has recently joined the executive level cast of speakers, which includes representatives from IBM, BHP Billiton, British American Tobacco, Barclays, Arcelor Mittal, Old Mutual, De Beers, Nestlé and many others.

Anglo American will discuss the most successful ways to respond to host communities' socio-economic development needs and to make sure these efforts contribute to business growth.

Jonathan Samuel, the company's International Social and Community Development Manager said: "The success of a company wanting to do business in emerging economies increasingly depends on their commitment to creating value not only financially but also environmentally and socially. This conference addresses major issues facing businesses in emerging markets."

Other topics to be covered at the summit include: how to develop comprehensive climate change strategies for emerging markets; anti-corruption solutions available to businesses; discrimination and equal opportunities management; supply chains in global economy; the role of business in capacity building.

Over 150 senior corporate responsibility executives and environmental experts are set to attend the summit in London on 9th-10th October.
