Precious Woods has won the "Established Businesses" category of the competition "Trophées de l'économie positive". The prize was awarded for Precious Woods' pioneering achievements in the sustainable management and use of tropical forests.

The presentation of the awards took place on March 22nd at the Paris Chamber of Commerce. The initiators of this sustainable business prize "“ awarded this year for the first time "“ are the consultancy firm, BeCitizen, the HEC School of Management and the association, Reporters d’Espoirs.

"We are absolutely delighted to have won this important award", said Andreas Heusler, CEO of Precious Woods, after the award ceremony. "For Precious Woods this is further confirmation that our approach is the right one. It is our aim to protect forests by using them sustainably. We are convinced that in addition to delivering a positive contribution to the environment and society, this approach also provides us with important, long-term competitive advantages over our business rivals. The award strengthens our resolve to push forward with our new projects."

The trophies were awarded in two categories: "Established Businesses" and "Start-ups". The three finalists of each category were selected from a total of 60 businesses. The trophy in the Start-ups category went to Ocean Power Delivery, a Scottish wave energy company. Both prize winners were chosen by an independent jury of prominent experts and honoured at a ceremonial gala attended by representatives from numerous companies, as well as French radio and television.

About the Trophées de l'économie positive

The Trophées de l'économie positive are awarded every year to acknowledge businesses that have succeeded in transforming the major social and environmental challenges of our times into opportunities for development by creating new products and services or original business models. The awards honour innovations that create growth benefiting all stakeholders, and contribute directly towards the improvement of the environment. Two trophies are awarded: one to start-up businesses which are developing key technologies for the future, and the other to established businesses whose positive impact is already evident today. The finalists are selected by students from the HEC Masters Course in Sustainable Development, assisted by BeCitizen consultants. The winners are chosen by a high-ranking jury of experts. The Trophées de l’économie positive were awarded for the first time this year. The initiators of the award are BeCitizen, a consultancy for sustainable development strategies, HEC Paris, a leading European Business school, and Reporters d’Espoirs, an association that promotes media coverage and support of sustainability initiatives.
