SAN FRANCISCO, CA - March 25, 2009 - Center for Resource Solutions welcomes BD Medical's Sandy, UT facility and Millipore Corp. to the growing list of participants from diverse industry sectors committed to using renewable energy to reduce their environmental impact. These two participants joined Green-e(R) Marketplace after purchasing a total of 49,000 MWh of Green-e Energy Certified renewable energy, enough to power their facilities for an entire year. They have been granted the use of the Green-e Marketplace Certified logo to demonstrate their environmental leadership.

"Along with improvements in energy efficiency, the single biggest impact companies can have in reducing their environmental footprint is purchasing their electricity from clean, renewable resources," said CRS Executive Director Arthur O'Donnell. "BD Medical's Sandy facility and Millipore Corp. have shown their voluntary commitment to reducing their own contribution to climate change and building a clean domestic energy infrastructure by buying certified renewable energy."

BD Medical is one of three business segments of BD. The Sandy facility joined Green-e Marketplace after purchasing Green-e Energy Certified renewable energy to meet 100% of its annual electricity needs. It purchased 39,000 MWh from Rocky Mountain Power's Blue Sky Energy program, which sources from wind resources. It is using the renewable energy purchased to manufacture safety-engineered devices including the BD Insyte(TM) Autoguard(TM) Shielded IV Catheter and BD Nexiva(TM) Closed IV Catheter System.

"We wanted to find an environmentally sustainable way to manufacture two of our innovative medical devices, and using renewable energy is a simple, effective way," said Cal Alexander, VP of Worldwide Manufacturing at BD Medical in Sandy. "By purchasing renewable energy certificates that were Green-e Energy certified, we were sure that our money was helping build the market for new renewables."

Billerica, Massachusetts-based Millipore Corp. purchased 10,000 MWh of Green-e Energy Certified renewable energy from 3Degrees to offset 100% of the electricity use in its Temecula, CA; Anderson, CA; St. Charles, MO; and Danvers, MA-based facilities.

"Purchasing Green-e certified renewable energy is a key part of our strategic energy strategy, which includes such areas as auditing, metrics, efficiency, and demand/response," said David Newman, Director, EHS & Sustainability. "It was important to us that our RECs were certified and verified because our employees and customers are scientists and engineers who pay careful attention to environmental claims. They demand clarity and precision in environmental labeling and communications."

BD Medical in Sandy, UT and Millipore Corp. will display the Green-e logo, the national symbol for renewable energy excellence, to help customers identify products and services produced using certified renewable energy. The two join a growing list of companies and organizations that are taking real action to reduce their share of greenhouse gas emissions. The renewable energy purchased was generated from nearly emissions-free renewable sources, avoids CO2 emissions, and serves to build the market for renewable energy nationwide.

Green-e Energy provides independent, third-party certification to ensure certified renewable energy products meet strict environmental and consumer protection standards, including ensuring products are sourced from verified new facilities built to serve the voluntary market; not double-counted; and retired on behalf of the purchaser. By joining
Green-e Marketplace, BD Medical in Sandy, UT and Millipore Corp. are submitting to auditing procedures that verify their purchases, allowing them to use the Green-e Marketplace Certified logo.
