SAN FRANCISCO, CA (May 7, 2008)-The Center for Resource Solutions announced today that The Philadelphia Phillies are the first Major League Baseball team to join Green-e® Marketplace by purchasing enough Green-e Certified renewable energy to meet 100% of the annual electricity needs for its stadium, Citizens Bank Park. The team purchased 20,000 MWh of Green-e Energy Certified renewable energy certificates from WindStreet Energy. As a member of Green-e Marketplace, The Philadelphia Phillies can now display the Green-e logo to inform consumers that they purchased 100% Green-e Certified renewable energy.

"We are proud of the Phillies for showing such a strong environmental commitment in buying Green-e Certified renewable energy," said Arthur O'Donnell, Executive Director of the Center for Resource Solutions, which administers the Green-e program. "As the first major league baseball team to take responsibility for the impact of their electricity use by investing in clean, renewable energy, they are showing real environmental leadership. We hope other clubs take their lead, because this is a game in which everyone can be a winner."

"By buying Green-e Certified renewable energy, the Phillies can be certain that our purchase promotes greater renewable energy development," said David Montgomery, Phillies President. "This purchase, through our 'Red Goes Green' program, is another step in raising awareness among baseball fans-with the ultimate goal of establishing a cleaner, greener environment."

One REC represents the attributes associated with one megawatt hour of energy from a renewable source. Energy generated from a renewable source results in less environmental waste and pollution, and customers who purchase RECs benefit by displacing other non-renewable sources from the electric grid. The Philadelphia Phillies' purchase of electricity generated from nearly emissions-free renewable sources avoids CO2 emissions and serves to build the market for renewable energy nationwide, increasing the incentives for building new facilities. Currently, renewable energy accounts for only 2% of total electricity generation nationwide.

The RECs purchased by The Philadelphia Phillies were certified by Green-e Energy, the leading renewable energy certification and verification program in the U.S. The program provides independent, third-party certification to ensure certified renewable energy meets strict environmental and consumer protection standards, including ensuring RECs are sourced from verified, new facilities; not double-counted towards any state's renewable energy goal; and retired on behalf of the purchaser. By joining Green-e Marketplace, The Philadelphia Phillies are submitting to auditing procedures that verify the organization's purchase, allowing them to use the Green-e Marketplace Certified logo. The amount of renewable energy purchased by the Phillies also qualifies the organization for the leadership level of the EPA's Green Power Partner program which aligns closely with Green-e Marketplace purchasing requirements.

The Green-e logo, the national symbol for renewable energy excellence, enables a growing number of consumers to easily identify high quality, certified renewable energy options, as well as everyday consumer products that are produced by companies that use renewable energy in their operations.
