CONOVER, NC "“ December 15, 2006 - North Carolina-based furniture retailer Boyles Distinctive Furniture has partnered with The Dr. Phil Show and DIY Network’s DIY to the Rescue to design and furnish interiors for three families whose homes were damaged by Hurricane Katrina.
The Dr. Phil Show features three New Orleans homeowners whose homes were damaged and/or destroyed during Hurricane Katrina. After the storm, the homeowners were victimized a second time by a scam construction operation that started but did not complete repairs to the homes. The construction company then abandoned the projects and took each family’s insurance monies. The DIY Network will profile one of the homes on its DIY to the Rescue program.
"Boyles was contacted by both The Dr. Phil Show and the DIY Network with separate requests for small gift certificates for the homeowners to redeem towards furniture," said Dean Thompson, Boyles Distinctive Furniture’s marketing director. "We immediately wanted to do more. Our designers gathered information about the families and their homes and hit the ground running, selecting furniture, mattresses, accessories and window treatments. Boyles is donating approximately $100,000 worth of furnishings to these worthy families. We’re thrilled to be a part of these special projects."
The Boyles team recently traveled to New Orleans to install their designs in the refurbished homes. The designs will be featured on both The Dr. Phil Show and DIY to the Rescue, where they will be revealed as a surprise to the homeowners.
Specifics about the project:
Two of the three homes in New Orleans were repaired, and Boyles’ designers Tyler Burns (designs out of Boyles at the Hickory Furniture Mart in Hickory, N.C.) and Kathy Gordon (designs out of Boyles in Jamestown, N.C.) designed the interiors of several rooms in these two homes. Boyles participated by providing design assistance, bedding, furniture and accessories for the home. The installation and filming took place in New Orleans on October 9 and 10, 2006. These homes will be featured on The Dr. Phil Show.
The third damaged home was completely demolished, and the DIY Network recently rebuilt the residence. Boyles Distinctive Furniture designer Missy Caulk (designs out of Boyles in Jamestown, N.C.) designed the interiors for all rooms in this home. Boyles provided design assistance, bedding, furniture and accessories for the home. The installation and filming took place in New Orleans on September 21 and 22, 2006. This home will be featured on both The Dr. Phil Show and DIY to the Rescue.
Both programs aired on October 27 and an encore of DIY to the Rescue on HGTV aired on October 30.
