READING (UK) December 20th 2006 "“ With the final approval of the REACH regulation on the control of chemical substances, Enablon, one of the leading providers of Sustainable Development reporting and management software solutions, announces the launch of a new software solution for the management of chemical substances: Enablon CMS (Chemical Management System).
Enablon CMS is a solution for managing chemical substances enabling companies to comply with the REACH regulation. The solution meets the regulation’s main challenges: substances inventory, compliance assessment and administrative follow-up: from the production of regulatory documents to the registration of substances.
The European Parliament adopted the REACH regulation (Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals) on December 13th, 2006, one of the most stringent regulations worldwide in terms of chemical substances control. The REACH regulation imposes on firms the registration of 30,000 substances when they are produced or imported in volumes exceeding a ton a year. The European Chemicals Agency, located in Helsinki, will centralize all data. This regulation will come into force on June 1st, 2007, in all European countries and will affect all companies doing business with and within the European Union.
The REACH regulation is meant to enhance scientific knowledge on the dangers of chemical substances, but most of all it increases companies’ liability. With this regulation, companies now have to prove their products are not harmful for health and environment.
The REACH regulation is complex and difficult for companies to implement, since they now have to rethink their organization, processes and information systems to be able to gather, manage and declare large sets of information about the chemical substances they use and produce.
Enablon, one of the leading providers of environmental reporting and management software solutions, has worked in partnership with industrial and chemical companies to develop a solution dedicated to the management of chemical substances and REACH compliance monitoring. Enablon CMS allows companies to:
"We have been guiding and supporting companies on their reporting, management and environmental compliance issues for a long time", says Philippe Tesler, Enablon’s co-founder and Business Development Director. "With the REACH regulation, the European Union has adopted one of the most stringent chemical substances regulations in the world. While this regulation will have a positive impact on public health and on the environment, it is a constraint for companies in terms of organization and information management. Enablon CMS, elaborated in partnership with corporations from the industrial and chemicals fields, enables companies to plan and implement an efficient REACH compliance policy".
