ATLANTA, GA. - October 28, 2008 - For the second consecutive year, Sterling Planet has received a Green Power Leadership Award from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The annual awards recognize leading national green power suppliers for their commitment and contribution to helping advance development of the nation's green power market.

DOE presented the award to Sterling Planet on Monday, October 27, in conjunction with the 2008 National Renewable Energy Marketing Conference in Denver. Additional Green Power Leadership Awards went to three Sterling Planet clients and nominees "“ Intel Corp., PepsiCo and Cisco Systems.

"Intel was pleased to nominate Sterling Planet for the prestigious Department of Energy award, and now we're gratified to see that this innovative leader in energy and environmental markets has now won the DOE award for the second consecutive year," said Marty Sedler, Intel's Director of Global Utilities and Infrastructure. "Sterling Planet is a market maker that has delivered an unprecedented, large volume of renewable energy kilowatt-hours tailored to our company’s specific needs."

A pioneer in sustainable energy markets, Sterling Planet has demonstrated unparalleled leadership in the growth of renewable energy markets and creation of environmental benefits. Since 2000, Sterling Planet has sold billions of REC kWh from diverse technologies such as wind, solar, biogas, landfill gas energy, biomass and small hydro.

Sterling Planet's renewable energy sales have avoided approximately 28 billion pounds of carbon dioxide emissions; in effect, neutralizing the carbon emissions of 2.4 million passenger cars for a year. Thirteen of the nation's top 25 renewable energy purchasers, including corporations in the top two rankings, have bought from Sterling Planet. Also served are another 1,529 business customers, 92 utilities, 57 colleges and universities, 188 government clients and thousands of consumers.

"Thanks to our forward-thinking customers, Sterling Planet has made great strides in benefiting the environment as we build the renewable energy market," said Mel Jones, Sterling Planet president and chief executive officer. "Customers from an array of market segments turn to us to make a difference and build their brand value. We are proud to share the spotlight with these giants in corporate environmental stewardship."

Sterling Planet is the trusted partner for buyers and sellers navigating complex carbon markets and seeking a carbon advantage. The Atlanta-based company is a leader in all three key environmental markets "“ renewable energy, energy efficiency and carbon.

"DOE selected this year's award winners for their leadership in helping our nation grow its market for clean energy alternatives for businesses and consumers," said Steve Chalk, DOE deputy assistant secretary for energy efficiency and renewable energy. "Consumer purchases of renewable energy help diversify our energy supplies, strengthen our national security and reduce global environmental impacts."

A sustainability pioneer, Sterling Planet introduced renewable energy certificates to the national market in 2000 and White Tag(R) energy efficiency certificates in 2006. These White Tags(R) trade similarly to RECs but represent the environmental value of energy savings rather than renewable energy production. Sterling Planet also markets verified emissions reductions, or carbon offsets, from domestic and international projects that adhere to leading quality standards, including Green-e Climate, U.S. EPA Climate Leaders and the Voluntary Carbon Standard.
