DENVER, CO - August 23, 2008 "“ The environmental impacts of constructing and decommissioning the 2008 Democratic National Convention (DNC) are being offset with clean, renewable energy from wind, water and bioenergy projects, Sterling Planet announced today. This is the second consecutive DNC that Sterling Planet has supplied with renewable energy, matching conventional electricity usage with clean energy in the form of Renewable Energy Certificates.

Sterling Planet, recipient of the 2007 Department of Energy Renewable Energy Marketer of the Year award, is providing Green-e(R) Energy Certified renewable energy through its Green America(TM) program to Kroenke Sports Enterprises in support of the DNC.

This quantity will fully offset the estimated 2.5 million kilowatt-hours of electricity that the DNC used during the six-week construction period prior to the event, as well as the two-week decommissioning period that will follow. According to the DNC, construction activities have continued both inside and outside of the 45-acre Pepsi Center complex nearly 20 hours each day. Hundreds of workers from dozens of companies have been working on every level of the venue and in each of the parking lots surrounding the building.

The renewable energy supply will avoid an estimated 1,944 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions, which is the equivalent to removing 356 cars from the road or avoiding the carbon dioxide emissions from 4,520 barrels of oil, according to U.S. EPA statistics.

"Sterling Planet welcomes the opportunity to supply renewable energy to the Pepsi Center in support of the DNC," said Mel Jones, President and CEO of Sterling Planet. "This clean energy both mitigates the climate change impact of the event and demonstrates how renewable energy is an important component of the new energy economy in Colorado and throughout the nation."

The renewable energy for the DNC will originate from a combination of wind, water and bioenergy projects based in the Denver metropolitan area and throughout the United States.

"We are a proud partner with Sterling Planet in supporting Kroenke Sports Enterprises and the DNC vision for a green convention," said Dave Jolette, Vice President and General Manager of Venue Operations for the Pepsi Center. "We commend Sterling Planet for generously providing renewable energy to support our programs to offset the carbon footprint resulting from the DNC’s presence at the Pepsi Center."

More than 35,000 delegates, journalists, volunteers and others are expected to visit Denver as part of the DNC. Business leaders are estimating the potential economic impact to be more than $160 million for the city and state of Colorado.
