SELLAFIELD, United Kingdom--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 16, 2007--Nuclear decommissioning consultant Fluor Ltd has set up a GBP 30,000 annual grant fund to benefit the communities affected by the plant.

The Fluor Cumbria Fund is administered by Cumbria Community Foundation and is for community groups in Sellafield's travel-to-work area.

Fluor Ltd, the UK operating arm of Fluor Corporation, one of the world's largest publicly held engineering and construction firms, has been providing technical and management services to British Nuclear Group for two years.

Fluor Corporation and its employees, through its philanthropic arm, the Fluor Foundation, have donated more than $115 million (US) globally along with tens of thousands of volunteer hours to socially responsible causes.

Fluor Ltd West Cumbria was impressed when it learned of the work of Cumbria Community Foundation. CCF Director Andrew Beeforth said: "The company approached us because it plays an active part in corporate social responsibility around the world and wanted to do the same here.

"We explained we could operate a UK fund on their behalf and mirror the arrangements and policies they had already established."

To mark the agreement, Bob Fluor, president of the Fluor Foundation, and Suzanne Esber, executive director, are joining CCF representatives to launch the fund tomorrow (16.3.07) at Fluor Ltd's offices at Westlakes Science Park in West Cumbria.

Bob Fluor said: "We are excited about the opportunity to partner with the leading grant making charity in Cumbria and one of the best in the country.

"The Cumbria Community Foundation has an excellent track record of delivering public and private sector funding programmes."

The Fluor Cumbria Fund money will be used to fund a wide variety of projects, but there will be an emphasis on cultural projects, projects that promote community and civic life, and education (particularly the promotion of maths and science with school-age children).

Most grants will be for between GBP 500 and GBP 3,000, and will be given out before the end of December 2007. Groups interested in applying should contact Deb Muscat at Cumbria Community Foundation on 01900 825760.

Fluor executives and Community Foundation staff will tour some of these projects on Thursday March 15th.
