Throwplace.com Seeks Recyclers and Refurbishers to Claim Free Merchandise

March 27, 2007 - Since its launch three years ago, thousands of users from coast-to-coast have posted new and used merchandise on Throwplace.com for give-away to interested takers. As members post more and more outdated and unwanted equipment, Throwplace.com seeks recyclers and refurbishers willing to claim the goods in their area.

At Throwplace.com, charities, businesses and individuals from all over the world "throw" their excess onto the Internet where others view and "take" what they need for free. Throwplace.com offers a structured, discreet, and easy-to-use format where online users are able to post goods, browse by item or location, and monitor their Throws and Takes in their site account. Once a donor accepts a request for their listing, Throwplace.com exchanges email addresses of the giver and taker so that pick up or shipping arrangements can be made directly.

A special section, US Charity, allows access to 501(c)(3) non-profits only, who return a receipt for tax-deduction purposes for taken goods. Charities may claim merchandise in this section for their organizations or for special needs parishioners. Members enthusiastically endorse the site with comments such as " For the first time in a long time I feel like someone else gives a care...keep up the good work!"

While some items listed on the site are brand new, others are in need of a little TLC. "Many Throwplace items are reused, but a lot of equipment is listed for refurbishing and recycling," says Throwplace.com founder Donna Lomangino. "We need more refurbishers and recyclers to step up to the plate and offer to take these items to keep them from being thrown out. Throwplace.com members appreciate businesses who participate in the recycling effort, and who find innovative uses for parts and outdated equipment."

In late 1999, Lomangino, the owner of a highly-regarded graphic design firm in Washington, DC, saw that the web needed a marketplace where goods could be exchanged rather than thrown away. She launched Throwplace.com in late March of 2004, having developed, produced, and financed the site herself.

Throwplace.com is a website where businesses and individuals can post and find items listed for donation to charities and nonprofits, businesses and individuals. The goals of Throwplace.com are to encourage reuse rather than disposal; to raise awareness of responsible environmental practices by promoting the free exchange of goods; to help those in need; and to bring the business community, nonprofits and the general public together by creating a central repository of donated merchandise available for recycling, reuse, and refurbishing.
