Redeem Brings Advanced Recycling and Fundraising Programs to U.S.,

ATLANTA, GA - April 3, 2007 "“ International recycling expert, Redeem, is expanding its U.S. business with a wireless phone recycling drive April 16-20 in conjunction with United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta. More than 60 companies including Comcast, Deloitte, King & Spalding and Marriott Hotels are participating in the "Bring Your Phone to Work" event, which will raise up to $100 per collected wireless phone for United Way.

Redeem estimates that in the U.S. alone, more than 500 million cell phones are obsolete-just sitting unused in junk drawers. Only 10 percent will be recycled, leaving the remaining 90 percent to become toxic landfill waste. Recycled and reused through a Redeem program, those same phones can contribute greatly to environmental and charitable efforts, such as those by United Way.

Victoria Christensen, North American general manager for Redeem, said that after eight successful years in the U.K., during which the company raised $8 million for charities and diverted 6,000 tons of toxic waste, she is eager to extend Redeem’s services in America in close proximity to Earth Day, April 22.

"The United States is one of the world's largest electronics markets, which translates into an equally lucrative recycling and reuse opportunity. Redeem is poised to share our successful international model with North America, and we are honored to usher in this effort in metro Atlanta with an esteemed partner, the United Way," Christensen said.

Redeem's programs advance environmental responsibility by collecting, recycling and reusing used printer cartridges and wireless phones. The company operates three American divisions: the national nonprofit division, which provides end-to-end fundraising support to large nonprofit organizations such as the United Way; the grassroots fundraising division, which provides turnkey fundraising solutions to local organizations such as schools and scouts and the brokerage division, which connects buyers and sellers of recycled and refurbished products.

"Given Redeem's success overseas, we are excited to offer our partners this opportunity to Bring a Phone to Work," said Mark O'Connell, United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta president. "This is a two-pronged opportunity-to raise funds for our community and to help the environment."
