PORTLAND, OR - April 21, 2008 - GreenPrint Technologies today announced the launch of a line of email signatures designed to reduce the number of emails printed unnecessarily. Called Treemail, the line of signatures will be available on the GreenPrint website beginning tomorrow for Earth Day. As well as generating awareness about the problem, GreenPrint has also provided an additional incentive: every email they can "convince" people not to print will be tallied, and for every tree saved GreenPrint will plant an additional tree, doubling the environmental benefit.

Over 97 billion emails fly around the world every day, and as the number of emails has risen, so has the amount of printing. Much of this is the result of printing emails as a way of archiving. In a study done by Lexmark more than half of the respondents over the age of 45 said they printed email off the web in order to save it. With that fact in mind, one of the Treemail signatures promotes GreenPrint's free commercial grade PDF writer as a paperless alternative for archiving email.

"The unnecessary printing of email causes millions of trees to be chopped down every year," said GreenPrint CEO Hayden Hamilton, "Rather than nag people about it, we’ve tried to create a fun incentive not to print unnecessarily which everyone can be a part of. If even a small percentage of emails incorporate one of our tree-saving signatures, it would help save thousands of trees daily."

The email signature messages vary from the humorous "“ cartoonish trees pleading to be saved "“ to the more serious, such as "By not printing this email you've helped save paper, ink, and millions of trees." Some of the signatures have links that direct users to the free version of GreenPrint's paper-saving software, GreenPrint World, while others direct users to a page that tracks how many emails and trees the signatures have helped save.

A page that displays all of the tree-saving signatures, as well as detailed installation instructions for various types of email, is available on the GreenPrint website "“ http://www.printgreener.com/signatures.php.

GreenPrint Technologies is the maker of products that are designed to reduce waste in home and office printing including: GreenPrint World software - free for home users, schools and non-profits, GreePrint Home and Enterprise software for PCs, GreenPrint Mac for OSX, and the EverGreen Font for Mac and PC. GreenPrint software eliminates wasteful pages in any printout automatically, saving time, money, and trees. GreenPrint does this by analyzing each page of every document sent to the printer and looking for typical waste characteristics (like that last page with just a URL, banner ad, logo, or legal jargon). GreenPrint also incorporates an easy to use PDF writer, an innovative print preview, and a reporting feature which keeps track of the number of pages and the amount of money saved. GreenPrint will have a staggering environmental impact when widely adopted. If all new computers sold in 2006 used GreenPrint, 36 million trees would be saved, reducing CO2 emissions by over 117 tons - the equivalent of taking 23 million cars off the road for an entire year! The average Fortune 500 company using GreenPrint will save over $2 million, 4000 trees and prevent more than 12,000 tons of CO2 emissions each year.
