LONDON, ENGLAND - November 14, 2007 - Europe and the world have witnessed the recent human and environmental challenges of California from fires in San Diego and the oil spill in San Francisco Bay. Gaiasoft, an international, London-based performance management and benchmarking software company (www.gaiasoft.com), offers its experience and tools to the EASE07 dialogs, joining others in collaboration to develop 'resilience' solutions for the state and its citizens.

Gaiasoft will participate in the 'Resilient California' project at the upcoming Energy EASE07 un-conference in San Francisco, November 16-18 (www.easeinitiative.com), sharing the knowledge it learned from European Union research on developing a sustainability and resilience solution scalable from city and county to continent. EASE07 has invited people, companies and government groups to participate at no charge and help create a Resilient California rebuilding approach that is participative, environmentally sustainable and life-enriching for every community.

Gaiasoft is part of the European Union-funded 'MIDIR' project (multidimensional risk and resilience www.midir.eu). MIDIR has reviewed risk governance best practices from around the world. Configuring the Gaiasoft software, MIDIR has created a template for resilience suitable for large, complex systems like the European Union. The approach can be summarized as 'creating templates to be ready for the unexpected so that when it happens there is the minimum of disruption and speedy recovery.' Gaiasoft believes this approach can be applied in California immediately, shaped through EASE07 input.

According to Gaiasoft's CEO Morel Fourman, "Oil spills and fires effect people, nature and the economy, placing sudden strain on existing systems. As the number of extreme events increase, national, state and city governments are challenged to incorporate 'resilience' as an essential governance principle. Governing for resilience asks the question: how can we create a city, county and state that is sustainable in the long-run and ready for the unexpected? Resilience encompasses sustainability, risk management and security.
