HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill., Jan. 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Moms are busy, moms are caring and moms are multi-tasking. The same could be said about all Kmart customers, who in 2007 donated more than $10 million to benefit the retailer's charitable partners while shopping. The funds were raised through a variety of in-store and online initiatives, as well as several associate-driven efforts. This is part of Kmart for Kids(SM), the umbrella program for the retailer's philanthropic initiatives, which focuses on improving children's health and wellness. Kmart for Kids also aims at helping make it easier for mom to take care of what she cares about most while she shops.

Kmart causes for 2007 include the March of Dimes, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital(R) and the American Diabetes Association. Kmart's fund-raising efforts have made the retailer the March of Dimes' longest standing corporate partner and contributor to its mission. Over the past 24 years, Kmart has raised more than $63 million to help the charity meet the needs of moms and babies. Kmart's customers and associates donated more than $7.4 million to the March of Dimes in 2007 alone. Additionally, during the holiday season, Kmart raised more than $3 million for St. Jude through hospital's annual Thanks and Giving(R) campaign.

"We truly owe this tremendous success to Kmart's customers and associates who so generously embrace our charitable partners and their focus on making a difference in the lives of families in the communities where we live and work," said Don Germano, senior vice president and general manager, for Kmart Retail. "We thank our customers for opening their hearts to the charities we support, and for responding in such a generous way to the opportunity to help while they shop."

Aside from opportunities to give at check out, Kmart for Kids plans to feature under its umbrella a variety of partnerships that will offer customers health-conscious products and easy access to health and wellness information.
