NEW YORK, NY. "“ October 15, 2008 "“ CSRwire today committed to sponsoring a fundraising event hosted by StartingBloc, a non-profit dedicated to educating and connecting highly talented and socially conscious emerging leaders at the undergraduate and young professional level. This sponsorship will contribute to providing full financial aid for five StartingBloc Fellows to attend StartingBloc's 2009 Global Institute for Social Innovation, in London.
The event is scheduled for the evening of October 17, 2008 in New York following a pro bono legal workshop hosted by another StartingBloc partner, White & Case LLC, on the same day. The workshop will provide StartingBloc's social entrepreneurs with the legal advice they need to establish and scale their social ventures.
Since inception in 2003, StartingBloc has held ten Institutes for Social Innovation that provide training on corporate social responsibility, social entrepreneurship and cross sector partnerships in Boston, New York, Philadelphia and London at leading academic institutions including Harvard Business School, Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of Management, The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, London Business School, Yale School of Management, The Fletcher School of Tufts University, and Wagner School of Public Service at New York University.
StartingBloc has graduated 850 Fellows from over 40 countries including China, Peru, Belgium and Ghana, who have used the network to establish social enterprises in their communities and to secure socially responsible careers. StartingBloc is supported by many of the world's leaders in corporate social responsibility and social innovation including organizations such as United Way of NYC, Google, Goldman Sachs, General Electric, Ashoka Foundation, Rabobank and Rudolf Steiner Foundation.
