BOSTON, MA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 12/17/08 -- eQuilibrium Solutions
Corporation, a leading supplier of carbon management and sustainability software solutions, today announced that Stuart R. Patterson has been named chief executive officer. Patterson, who has been working closely with eQuilibrium's board of directors since October, succeeds Gopal Nagarajan, eQuilibrium's founding chief executive officer. Nagarajan was named Chief Operations Officer effective immediately. Co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer, Peter Morgan, will continue in his role.
As an internationally recognized entrepreneur and business leader, Patterson brings more than 20 years of software and business management and marketing experience to eQuilibrium. Patterson was formerly CEO of Agion Technologies, an award-winning developer of environmentally friendly solutions for antimicrobial protection. He remains Chairman of the Board of Courion, Inc., a Framingham-based leader in the field of identity management software solutions.
"Stuart is exactly the right leader for eQuilibrium," said Nagarajan. "His extensive background in technology and vision for driving ROI in corporate operations will accelerate the alliances that eQuilibrium is already forging with the world's largest organizations. His strong management experience will help shape eQuilibrium as we continue our growth, both here and abroad."
"Under Gopal's leadership, eQuilibrium has led the race to provide a modular, SaaS platform for carbon accounting solutions with the delivery of feature-rich applications to Global 2000 companies and the ongoing addition of new capabilities on a web-accessible system," Patterson said. "I am very impressed with the business and market position that Gopal and Peter have established for eQuilibrium, and thrilled by the opportunity to work alongside them as we build eQuilibrium to serve the burgeoning demand around the world."
Among his numerous successful ventures, Patterson guided voice recognition leader SpeechWorks (now Nuance) from startup to the 12th most successful IPO of the year 2000. While at SpeechWorks, he was recognized as a Technology Pioneer by the World Economic Forum. He began his career at ICF International as an energy conservation analyst for utilities such as the TVA. Patterson has a B.A. in English and American Literature from Harvard University and a Masters in Public and Private Management (MPPM) from the Yale School of Management.
"We are thrilled to attract a seasoned professional with Stuart's track record to our company," said eQuilibrium board member Ralph Earle, Managing Director of Boston's Clean Energy Venture Group. "The world's leading corporations are seeking to get a return from their sustainability efforts, and carbon and energy management is the right place to begin. The eQ platform gives their F500 clients a rapidly deployable means to make that happen right now, and Stuart Patterson is precisely the right technology entrepreneur to lead eQ's expansion."
According to recent World Bank estimates, the global carbon market is estimated be $64B, and growing rapidly. With recent announcements regarding US Cap & Trade standards emerging with the new Obama presidency, this estimate is broadly considered to be conservative -- a rare bright spot amidst an otherwise gloomy economic climate.
