CHICAGO, IL - March 24, 2008 - Each year nearly 1 million trees are cut down to print paper coupons. In that process, millions of gallons of fresh water are contaminated, greenhouse gases are released and tons of paper is forced into the waste stream. One million trees is the equivalent of approximately 2,500 acres of trees-or clear-cutting these urban parks:
Fast growing EZ-PICTM paperless, instant coupons provide consumers, retailers and manufacturers an environmentally sound and more efficient means of couponing.
Since November 2006, EZ-PICTM paperless, in-store coupons have more than doubled their in-store presence. Today, these eco-friendly coupons are found on the shelves of over 650 stores nationally, at retailers like BI-LO, Big Y, Coborn's, Food City and Kings. The program is set for exponential growth during 2008.
"Our goal is to make EZ-PICTM the new industry standard," explains Bob Longo, Vice President of Manufacturer Marketing at Unicous Marketing, the company which developed EZ-PIC. "EZ-PICTM offers a more effective, cost efficient marketing tool, which is poised to transform the retail, promotional industry, as well as our environment."
"Not only is EZ-PICTM an effective promotional tool, it's the right thing for our business as BI-LO works to minimize our impact on the environment, said Mike Mannion, Director of Sales Planning. "Our partnership with Unicous is an important part of BI-LO's green initiative."
Along with reducing paper waste associated with paper coupons, in honor of Earth Day 2008, EZ-PICTM will plant one tree for every 100 EZ-PICTM coupons redeemed in stores nationwide. Many popular, national brands have used EZ-PIC paperless coupons including Borden, Bumble Bee, Land O'Lakes, McCormick and Ocean Spray.
The Earth Day charitable program is running in partnership with American Forests-a world leader in planting trees for environmental restoration and a pioneer in the science and practice of urban forestry.
"We're thrilled to be breaking new ground with Unicous Marketing on the EZ-PICTM program," explained Deborah Gangloff, Executive Director of American Forests. "This is a win-win for our environment. Reforestation will occur with the company's commitment to plant trees as electronic coupons are redeemed - and as EZ-PIC's paperless coupons become an industry standard, less paper and trees will be wasted."
As EZ-PIC's use grows among consumer packaged goods manufacturers and retailers nationwide, America's communities will literally become greener.
