"Sustainable Banking and Green Business" Workshop

- April 9, 2009 - Piraeus Bank organised a benchmarking workshop in Athens, 18 March 2009, on "Sustainable Banking and Green Business". Around 50 managers and executives from within the Bank had the opportunity to discuss with a distinguished panel of speakers issues pertaining to ethical and sustainable investments.

Specifically, speeches were delivered by Stephen Hine, Head of Responsible Investment Development, EIRIS; Barry Clavin, Ethical Policies Manager, Co-op Bank; Frans de Clerck, Co-founder of Triodos Bank in Belgium, Senior Advisor to the Executive Board, Triodos Bank Group; Mauro Meggiolario, Assistant Director, Banca Etica; Tessa Tennant, Executive Chair, the ICE Organisation; Prof. Dimitris Lalas, Director of FACE3TS; Vrassidas Zavras and Elena Primikiri from the Environmental Department of Piraeus Bank.

The workshop was organized in the framework of the GREENBanking4Life project which is supported by the European Commission under the LIFE financing instrument. The project is carried out by Piraeus Bank in partnership with the Ecological Recycling Society. It is noteworthy, that the workshop was attended by Philip Owen, Head of Unit LIFE, from D.G. ENVIRONMENT, and Christina Marouli, from Astrale GEIE the external monitoring team for LIFE projects.

As stated by Vrassidas Zavras, Head of the Environmental Department of Piraeus Bank, "the immediate response and active participation of top managers from all the Bank's Divisions involved in developing green products and strategies, is a tangible proof of the commitment Piraeus Bank has made to promote green business in Greece and the Balkans."
