London, UK - The drive to improve assurance to stakeholders on companies' social, economic and environmental performance and intentions is gathering pace. Investors, regulators communities, employees, customers, NGOs and companies themselves are all seeking improvements in this area. And recent developments in international company law, including Sarbanes-Oxley in the US and the OFR in the UK, are further fuelling this demand.
Launched in March 2003, the AA1000 Assurance Standard is globally recognised as the leading assurance standard to enable, corporate, NGO and Public Sector organisations to build credibility with stakeholders and improve performance. There is now a growing demand for information and practical experience of the standard and how it can improve assurance and accountability.

In response to these needs AccountAbility is delighted to announce an international event, in London, that will explore the important roles of accountability and assurance.

This one-day conference, followed by a training day, will provide essential learning for those wanting to understand, use or influence emerging assurance standards, including the AA1000 Assurance Standard. It will offer unique insights for business managers, assurance providers, corporate responsibility managers, investor relations' professionals and internal audit managers; at all levels of experience and understanding.

Attendees will have the opportunity to:

  • Explore businesses' experiences in assuring social and environmental performance.
  • Examine 'what assures', and how confident stakeholders feel in companies' accountability.
  • Focus on the AA1000 Assurance Standard including; applications to date, relationship to other frameworks such as GRI, and future use.
  • Learn how companies have benefited from the AA1000 Assurance Standard.

    Attendees will be benefit from:

  • A better understanding of current assurance practices and the role of accountability, including the AA1000 Assurance Standard and the Global Reporting Initiative.
  • Practical information on how to implement and improve processes and activities, both in reporting, and stakeholder engagement.
  • New thinking that will support a better understanding of key issues.
  • Networking opportunities for companies, NGOs and service providers to discuss their own experiences.

At this event AccountAbility will launch its upgraded professional certification scheme, which will enable assurance providers to test and demonstrate their competencies against a clearly defined framework.

Following the conference, AccountAbility will also hold a training day on 19th November, for those wishing to increase their competencies around the AA1000 Assurance Standard. On 17th November, prior to the conference, we are also planning to run a half-day introduction seminar.

Further details about the venue and cost of the conference will be made available in the near future, however, all those registering an interest now will be eligible for an 'early booking' discount.
