Last Few Places Available For “Business and Sustainability”

A few places are still available on the “Business and Sustainability” course, taking place between March 7-11 2004 with Simon Zadek, at the world-renowned Schumacher College in Devon. This unique residential course provides participants with a rare opportunity to spend several inspiring and highly valuable days with one of the world’s leading Corporate Social Responsibility specialists.

Simon Zadek, author and founder/CEO of Accountability, will be joined by Peter Pruzan, Professor of Systems Science in the Department of Management, Philosophy & Politics at
The Copenhagen Business School. Together the group will explore questions such as:

  • What does Corporate Responsibility mean in practice?
  • How do you make a real difference working in or influencing particular companies?
  • How can you distinguish public relations spin from real endeavour, and gain inspiration and insight from the latter?
  • What has to be done to get the right balance between new models of business accountability and personal value transformation?”
The final day of the course will be taught by Christian Schumacher, son of E.F. Schumacher, author of “Small is Beautiful”, after whom the college is named.

The course is the first in the college’s 2004 “Business & Sustainability” programme. Previous participants have included senior and middle managers from some of the UK’s largest companies who all found great benefit in stepping back from the day-to-day and engaging with like-minded people from different disciplines and backgrounds. They also commented that spending ‘quality time’ with inspiring individuals, normally only heard in ‘sound-bites’ at conferences, is particularly useful.

“These courses offer a chance to learn from unique individuals who are changing the mindsets of businesses and governments, and engaged at the cutting edge of the sustainability debate with companies every day.” Jonathon Porritt, Director of Forum for the Future & Chairman of the UK Sustainable Development Commission.
