New Report From Kyoto Publishing Carbon Neutral and Printed on Triple-Certified Recycled Paper

VANCOUVER, B.C. - February 10, 2009 - While books require paper and paper requires trees, the latest report by sustainability thought leader Kyoto Publishing will create well over 100 acres of them-or at least the equivalent thereof. Taking a leaf out of its own book, the company today announced that in addition to using paper with recycled fibre, it has offset all unavoidable carbon emissions created in the production and distribution of the second volume of The Sustainable Enterprise Report: Turning Awareness into Action by working withCommunity Energy, Inc. to obtain carbon credits. The estimated environmental benefit is equivalent to planting about 137 acres of trees or not driving over 350,000 miles, company officials said.

The Sustainable Enterprise Report (www.awarenessintoaction.com) obtained the carbon credits through a donation of Green-e Climate certified greenhouse gas emissions reductions, offsetting 152 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2e). "Kyoto Publishing chose to work with Community Energy because our Green-e Climate certified emission reductions come from U.S.-based wind energy projects," said Paul Copleman of Community Energy. "This donation makes a difference for the environment and helps combat global warming."

The paper stock used for the report is NewPage's tri-certified forest management chain-of-custody Arbor Web product, which is certified as coming from sustainably managed forests by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) and the Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC). The cover paper stock of the report is made with 100 percent recycled fiber, 30 percent post-consumer fiber. "We are pleased to partner with Kyoto Publishing on the second edition of The Sustainable Enterprise Report to demonstrate our commitment to sustainability and to communicate our successes as examples for others to follow," said Rick Merdan of NewPage. "The use of our Arbor line of papers ensures that the media matches the message of the report."

The report was printed with vegetable-based inks in a facility that has implemented emissions reductions measures that exceed the already stringent regulations in British Columbia, Canada.

"It is extremely important to us as individuals and as a corporation to ensure our footprint on the planet is minimal while we are producing The Sustainable Enterprise Report," said Kyoto Publishing's Christopher Smith, publisher of the report. "Whether it is choosing vendors because of their corporate social responsibility efforts and the footprint of their products or simply walking to work, we are committed to doing more than just helping others with their sustainability."
