Worldfund Honors Steven M. Shindler Executive Chairman of NII Holdings

RESTON, Va., June 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NII Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq: NIHD) today announced that the company's Executive Chairman Steven M. Shindler was recognized by the World Education & Development Fund (Worldfund) at its 4th annual Education Leadership Award Dinner and Gala in New York City. Steve Shindler received the Worldfund Education Leadership Award, honoring him for his personal and professional commitment to education in the region. The event brought together hundreds of Latin American and U.S. business leaders to support education for underprivileged children throughout Latin America, raising more than $1.7 million to support Worldfund's mission of financing high-quality and results-driven education in Latin America. Jose Sergio Gabrielli, President and CEO of Petrobras, was also honored with the Education Leadership Award.

Since becoming a supporter of the organization in 2006, NII Holdings has participated in several key Worldfund projects in Latin America including:
- The Mano Amiga Santa Maria School in Buenos Aires, Argentina, providing high-quality education to 270 preschool through fourth grade students.
- The Tertio Millennio preschool project which serves Sao Paulo's poorest neighborhoods by offering quality childcare and job training for parents.
- The Mano Amiga Santa Catarina School in Nuevo Leon, Mexico, providing high-quality education to 753 preschool through eighth grade students.
- The IAPE 2007 Summer Program in New Hampshire, U.S., providing Mexican public school teachers with training, enhancing their skills to effectively teach English.
