MADISON, NJ. - February 27, 2009 - February 27 to March 2, 2009, Eight Fairleigh Dickinson Students will join more than 12,000 young leaders from across the country for Power Shift '09 in Washington, D.C. to demand that the President and Congress pass a bold climate and energy policy that prioritizes renewable energy, green job creation, and an aggressive cap on carbon emissions. The Institute for Sustainable Enterprise has sponsored eight FDU students to participate in one of the largest youth movements in this country to push the new administration and Congress to pass bold, comprehensive energy and climate legislation.
"This will provide a great opportunity for our future leaders to make a difference during a crucial time in our nation's history," said Dana Patterson, former FDU Green Club President, "Now is the time for the youth to voice their opinions to help build this new green economy and address climate change. Powershift '09 is a perfect place to start."
The Power Shift '09 summit kicks off on Friday, February 27 with a press conference, youth leaders, speakers including Nancy Pelosi, Ed Markey, Lisa Jackson, and Carol Browner, and culminates on Monday, March 2, with a gathering of thousands of youth on Capitol Hill. The four-day summit will also include seminars, panels and workshops, a green career fair, legislative briefings and activist trainings, and a day of action, where thousands of youth will flood the halls of Congress to lobby their representatives.
Power Shift '09 is organized by the Energy Action Coalition, which has grown over the past four years to include 50 national organizations, over 700 local groups and hundreds of thousands of young people all working together to successfully fight for clean energy solutions, and the creation of new green economy. For more information visit:
