Christie's of London, July 10 Auction of Pete Townshend's Guitar to Benefit the Alliance for Sustainability

MINNEAPOLIS,MN. - July 10, 2008 - The Alliance for Sustainability is pleased to announce that Christie's of London is auctioning the guitar Pete Townshend used to compose Behind Blue Eyes, to benefit our work to support projects that are ecologically sound, economically viable, socially just and humane throughout the U.S.

A Board member of the Alliance for Sustainability has donated the guitar to advance the vital outreach efforts of the Alliance which has been a leader in the sustainability movement in the U.S. and internatinoally for 25 years. A key initiative of the Alliance is to support cities and towns in Minnesota, the broader U.S. to save money, build community and achieve ecological health as Eco-Municipalities.

The 1960's classical acoustic guitar has a rosewood fretboard and spruce top and is signed and inscribed on the body in black felt pen "Pete Townshend, May 19, 2000" The guitar was owned by Pete Townshend 1967-2000 and used by him to compose Behind Blue Eyes, released on the Who's Next album, 1971. It is accompanied by a document concerning the provenance signed by Townshend.

The Alliance for Sustainability was founded in 1983 and has been one of the original proponents of sustainability, developing a widely used four-part definition. Its mission is to bring about personal, organizational and planetary sustainability.
