ORLANDO, Fla., Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Intelligent Global Pooling Systems (iGPS Company LLC), operator of the world’s first all-plastic pool with embedded radio frequency identification (RFID) tags, announced today that Borders Melon Co, Inc. will begin shipping its watermelons on iGPS' all-plastic pallet.

The Hargil, Texas, company has been farming watermelons since the 1960s and is a leading grower/shipper of watermelons in North America. Borders Melon is the latest company to switch from wood pallets to iGPS’ state-of-the-art, recyclable plastic pallet.

"We switched to iGPS because its value proposition is compelling," said Claudie Berry, Sales Manager for Borders Melon. "Their pallet is dramatically lighter when our product is shipped on it compared to the wood alternative, which means we can get an extra one to two bins of product on a truck. That's a huge savings for us in freight costs. In addition, the pallet's superior strength and construction means less product damage. Put it all together, and the result is significant cost savings and greater efficiency."

"We are very excited to have Borders join our growing family of shippers and retailers," said iGPS Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Bob Moore. "The lighter weight of our pallet and its full top deck coverage are great advantages to growers like Borders Melon. Plus, our pallet dramatically reduces the risks of cross-contamination and infestation."

In just three years, iGPS has revolutionized the way goods are being shipped throughout the U.S. supply chain. Its all-plastic pallet weighs 30% less than typical multi-use wood pallets, contains 4 RFID tags for tracking and tracing, and is 100% recyclable. In addition, iGPS' pallet meets or exceeds all GMA requirements and has received FM Approvals Standard 4996 and UL 2335 certification (file no. R25482) for fire retardance. Many of America’s top companies now ship on iGPS pallets, including QTG (Quaker Tropicana Gatorade), the Chicago-based division of PepsiCo, Cott, Imperial Sugar, Martori Farms and other top-tier brands.
