- March 26, 2009 - First Climate announced today that it has been chosen to offset greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions generated at the 2009 Carbon TradeEx America conference to be held in Washington, D.C., on April 7th and 8th. First Climate will retire Gold Standard verified carbon offsets to negate all of the emissions generated through energy use at the event venue, hotel accommodations, catering and production of conference print materials.

The basic variables for First Climate's calculation of emissions associated with the event are verified by the Institute for Applied Ecology. The two day event is estimated to emit 64 tons of GHG emissions as a result of these activities.

These high quality offsets are generated from a wind power project located in Turkey in the region of Marmara. The clean, renewable wind power supplied by the project reduces GHG emissions in the region as well as emissions of other pollutants related to conventional electricity generation such as sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and other harmful particulates.

Dr. Sascha Lafeld, Executive Board Member and co-founder of First Climate will speak at Carbon TradeEx America on maximizing current and prospective opportunities in the evolving offset market. Additionally, Mr. Bjorn Fischer, Managing Director at First Climate LLC, will speak on a panel discussing scenarios for creating a pan-American carbon market.
