CHICAGO, April 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The McCormick Foundation and Chicago White Sox Charities (CWSC) are pleased to announce the creation of the Chicago White Sox Community Fund, a fund of the McCormick Foundation. Through this partnership, CWSC will reach out to fans to raise money for important local causes. Funds raised will go to the Chicago White Sox Community Fund and then will be matched at 50 percent by the McCormick Foundation.
Priority areas of focus for the Chicago White Sox Community Fund will include youth education and recreation, family support programs and civic health. CWSC donations, plus the Foundation match, will be granted to thoroughly screened non-profit organizations providing critical services to the Chicagoland community. Additionally, the McCormick Foundation and CWSC will absorb all administrative costs, ensuring that 100 percent of every dollar donated to the Fund, and the matching dollars, will be available for grants to non-profit agencies.
"This new partnership between the White Sox and the McCormick Foundation means two of Chicagoland's civic institutions will be working together to benefit the local community," noted David L. Grange, president and CEO of the McCormick Foundation. "Something powerful happens when organizations unite efforts to serve, and we are delighted to have this opportunity to combine our resources and expertise to assist those most in need."
"The Chicago White Sox and White Sox Charities are very proud of the giving we've accomplished in our community through various grants and programs," said Jerry Reinsdorf, chairman of the Chicago White Sox. "This partnership with the McCormick Foundation, and the creation of the new Chicago White Sox Community Fund, will greatly expand our ability to help others. In the end, that is the ultimate goal of White Sox Charities and the McCormick Foundation - to help our neighbors."
The McCormick Foundation's Board of Directors officially approved Chicago White Sox Charities as a partner in the Foundation's Communities Program on March 25, 2009. The Chicago White Sox join the Foundation's nationwide network of Communities Program partners, which include newspapers, broadcasters and sports teams. In 2008, the Communities Program and its partners raised more than $22 million from tens of thousands of donors, and granted nearly $34 million to non-profit agencies from coast to coast.
