CAMBRIDGE, Mass., April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The Nano Science and Technology Institute (NSTI) today announced that Thomas Kalil, the associate director of Science and Technology Policy for the Obama Administration, has been added to the conference program at TechConnect World, taking place at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas. Kalil is scheduled to deliver a keynote address entitled, "Nanotechnology and the Obama Administration" on Monday, May 4th at 8:30 AM.

In addition to his role in the Obama Administration, Thomas Kalil is also the Special Assistant to the Chancellor for Science and Technology at UC Berkeley. There, he is responsible for multi-disciplinary research initiatives which intersect information technology, nanotechnology, microsystems and biology. He is actively involved in building and strengthening partnerships between biotechnology organizations, and industry, government, and non-profit organizations.

Previously, Thomas Kalil served as the Deputy Assistant to President Clinton for Technology and Economic Policy, and he was the Deputy Director of the White House National Economic Council, where he led a number of White House technology initiatives, such as the National Nanotechnology Initiative, the Next Generation Internet, bridging the digital divide, e-learning, and he helped to increase funding for long-term information technology research.

Kalil has authored numerous articles and op-eds on S&T policy, nanotechnology, nuclear strategy, U.S.-Japan trade negotiations, U.S.-Japan cooperation in science and technology, the National Information Infrastructure, distributed learning, and electronic commerce.
