Nature's Path Announces 2009 Award Recipients

Richmond, BC - April 22, 2009 - Nature's Path Organic Foods, North America's number one organic cereal manufacturer, is celebrating the ten year anniversary of its EnviroKidz Giving Back Fund, which has donated a total of over $1.2 million Canadian to deserving non-profit organizations over the last decade.

The mission of the EnviroKidz Giving Back Program is to educate and empower the children of today to change their present and future world. To help achieve this, Nature's Path donates 1% from sales of EnviroKidz products annually, which include delicious and nutritious organic cereals, bars, and snacks for children and features educational information about endangered species on the packaging. The awards are given to organizations that support endangered species, habitat conservation and environmental education for kids.

"We are committed to leaving the world a better place than we found it by helping to empower the next generation and by supporting organizations protecting the environment," said Arran Stephens, President and Founder of Nature's Path Organic Foods. "We are thrilled to be able to give to deserving non-profits during these hard times and we are especially proud of the more than $1 million we have donated - through the consumer support of our EnviroKidz line - over the last 10 years that is helping to improve the world for all the plants, animals and people that inhabit it."

Among the great work made possible by the EnviroKidz Giving Back Program are efforts by two organizations, the Amazon Conservation Team and Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund.

The Amazon Conservation Team (ACT) works in partnership with indigenous people in conserving biodiversity, health and culture in tropical America. They have used the award to expand the impact of their traditional medicine apprenticeship program, "Shamans and Apprentices," in efforts to increase the protection of both the ACT's partner tribes' culture and rainforest and to develop and publish a series of Rainforest Study Guides for children in the U.S. in kindergarten through eighth grade.

The Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund is dedicated to the conservation and protection of gorillas and their habitat in Africa. They have used the award to help save endangered species and ecosystems - as a result of the organization's work, the mountain gorilla population in the Virungas has increased from 250 to more than 380. Because they believe the well-being of the local community is critical to conservation, they have also used the award to help serve more than 300,000 adults and children with medical treatment, clean water, schooling and micro-enterprise projects.
