Highlights of the MetLife 2010 Corporate Citizenship Report include:

More than $44.7 million in contributions supporting nonprofit organizations with a focus on empowering older adults, preparing young people and building livable communities;
Celebrated 25 years awarding research grants in Alzheimer’s disease and expanded programming for healthy aging initiatives;
Supported food banks across the U.S. to meet the growing demands for services due to the economic downturn;
Increased access to postsecondary education by aligning the GED high school equivalency exam with standards for college readiness;
Provided more than $8 million to cultural organizations to make the arts more accessible for people of all ages and backgrounds;
MetLife associates helped build five new playgrounds, providing a fun and safe place for kids to play;
Invested $915 million in renewable energy projects, including solar, wind and geothermal technologies;
All 14 of MetLife’s U.S. owned and/or operated buildings are Energy Star certified, earning recognition by the Environmental Protection Agency as an Energy Star Leader;
Ranked among the top 50 of the largest 500 companies in Newsweek magazine’s annual green issue, making MetLife the highest ranked insurer on the list.
