Office Depot, a leading global provider of office products and services, today announced the release of its 2009 Corporate Citizenship Report. The report, which highlights the Company’s commitment to diversity, environmental sustainability, community and ethics around the world for the 2008 calendar year, is available in print as well as online at www.officedepot.com/corporatecitizenship.

“It is Office Depot’s belief that corporate citizenship should not go out of favor in challenging times,” said Steve Odland, Chairman and CEO of Office Depot. “Our Board of Directors, our management team and our associates around the world are committed to meeting the critical needs of the people and environment around us – regardless of the economic situation.”

The Corporate Citizenship Report is an evolved version of Office Depot’s past Community Relations, Environmental Stewardship and Sustainable Value Reports. For the third consecutive year, the report references guidelines established by the Global Reporting Initiative.

Highlights from the 2009 Corporate Citizenship Report include:
Diversity: Office Depot increased sales of products from Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUBs) to over half a billion dollars; the Company achieved $85 million in Tier One partner sales and an additional $70 million in Internal Procurement HUB spend.
Office Depot built the Company’s first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Certified store in Austin, Texas; the Company ended 2008 with more than 6,100 items with green attributes in its North American assortment, and reduced its facilities and transportation carbon footprint by 6%.
Community: The Office Depot Foundation gave $20.2 million in financial aid and in-kind donations and assisted 1,689 charities through the National Backpack Program. By the end of 2008, more than 1,780,000 backpacks were donated to children since 2001.
Ethics: Office Depot increased the number of factories inspected in the Company’s social accountability program by 48.
