Black & Veatch, a leading global provider of critical human infrastructure solutions, today announced that CIO Irvin Bishop Jr. was named the 2022 Kansas City Global CIO of the Year® by the ORBIE® Awards. For over 20 years, the CIO ORBIE Awards have recognized technology executives for leadership, innovation and excellence in this rapidly growing, CIO-led national professional association.
Bishop is a global leader in data optimization, digital transformation, automation and marketing. He recently guided the development of a roadmap for Black & Veatch’s digital strategy that optimizes the deployment and execution of its full portfolio of energy, telecommunications and water infrastructure solutions for clients around the world. The company’s strategy calls for growth across each of Black & Veatch’s global market sectors, and it focuses on innovative technologies to strengthen organizational effectiveness and operations.
“Irvin understands and applies the latest digital technologies that are helping our clients tackle global megatrends such as electrification, decarbonization, digitalization and resilience,” said Mario Azar, Black & Veatch’s Chairman and CEO. “In addition to his contributions as CIO, Irvin has helped strengthen diversity, equity and inclusion by encouraging and participating in efforts that embrace varying backgrounds and perspectives. Irvin is a champion for positive change within Black & Veatch, and on behalf of the company, I congratulate him and the CIO team on this well-deserved accolade.”
Bishop’s passion for creating fun workplaces and providing professionals with career growth opportunities has been instrumental in attracting and retaining tomorrow’s technology leaders. Outside of the office, Bishop believes in giving back to the community and participates in many volunteer initiatives. He has contributed to more than eight Habitat for Humanity home builds, volunteers as a Youth Motivational Task Force speaker and is a national trustee and board member of Boys & Girls Clubs of America. He joined the Advisory Board of KansasCityCIO in 2021.
The Kansas City CIO ORBIE® Awards honors chief information officers who have demonstrated excellence in technology leadership. Finalists and winners are selected through a rigorous, independent judging process led by prior ORBIE winners, and winners were announced at an awards ceremony on September 16.
