Birdies. Not those hatched in a nest, but rather, those made on made on the golf course. PGA Professionals and friends, Justin Thomas and Bud Cauley recently took part in a “birdie challenge.” The golfer with the most birdies would have $100,000 donated in his name by FedEx to Heart to Heart International (HHI), a nonprofit providing humanitarian development and crisis relief worldwide.

In keeping with the birdie theme, both players tweeted about the competition. Additionally, to help bring attention to the challenge, both players wore custom shoes. They were brightly decorated – like pairs of exotic parrots – with Heart to Heart International and FedEx Cares branding. The shoes were designed by a small business, Nomad Customs.

FedEx was proud as a peacock to have FedEx Cares branding displayed on the shoes. This was in recognition of the decades-long collaboration between FedEx and HHI. During that time, they’ve worked together to respond to disasters around the world, delivering more than $2B worth of medicines and supplies to more than 130 countries.

“This birdie challenge at the first event of the FedExCup Playoffs is a great way to bring visibility to Heart to Heart and provide them additional financial support,” said Jenny Robertson, FedEx Sr. Vice President Integrated Marketing and Communications.

The $100,000 grant from FedEx will specifically help HHI with their pandemic relief efforts. Kim Carroll, HHI CEO, noted “Through this kind of generosity, we are better positioned to fight Covid-19 and work to stop the transmission of the virus.”

All the best to Thomas and Cauley as they continue to compete. Who knows? Maybe someday one of these birdie-makers will be able to crow about winning the FedExCup.
