The American Forest Foundation (AFF) will host a webinar with partner, The Nature Conservancy, on April 30, 2020 at 1 p.m. ET on the Family Forest Carbon Program, a new program that can help companies make a meaningful contribution to our climate, environment and rural communities through family-owned forests.
This week, Amazon, Inc announced it has made a large investment in the Family Forest Carbon Program, joining partners International Paper, 3M, Domtar and VF Corporation. Other companies have the opportunity to join these climate leaders in this effort.
The Family Forest Carbon Program is a new program that opens up carbon markets to small forest holdings, providing rural landowners with incentive payments to implement sustainable forest practices to increase carbon storage and improve the forest health. The carbon produced from the program will be available to companies in the form verified carbon credits. Unlike a traditional carbon project, the Family Forest Carbon Program operates in the U.S. only, and works to enact additional positive action for the environment. It also uses a new methodology, co-created with Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard for carbon accounting that is credible and cost-effective to landowners.
