The Arbor Day Foundation announced today a new partnership with world-renowned Italian winery, Santa Margherita, to plant 15,000 trees in Texas National Forest during the holiday timeframe of September to December. The reforestation project will plant a mix of shortleaf and longleaf pines, helping to restore critical watersheds and wildlife habitat in the region. Additionally, it will contribute to two national restoration projects for pine species, the Longleaf Million Acre Challenge and the Shortleaf Restoration Initiative.

“We are excited to work with Santa Margherita to plant much needed trees in Texas National Forest,” said Dan Lambe, president, Arbor Day Foundation. “Globally, approximately 18 million acres of forests are lost every year to raging wildfires, insects, disease, and more. There is a dire need to replant our forests and we are grateful for support from partners like Santa Margherita that allow us to regenerate life back into forests.”

Record wildfires, pests, disease and other natural disasters have destroyed millions of trees in forests across the country. The Foundation recently launched the Time for Trees® initiative to plant 100 million trees and inspire 5 million tree planters by 2022, the 150th anniversary of Arbor Day. The trees planted in Texas National Forest will work toward this goal.

“With our commitment to eco-friendly and sustainable practices, we couldn’t be more thrilled to work with the Arbor Day Foundation on this initiative,” said Jane Scott, VP of Marketing at Santa Margherita USA. “There is no better time to give back than during the holidays, and we are gratified to be making a difference in this wildlife region.”

The partnership will last from September to December, with Santa Margherita donating an additional tree for every two bottles of Santa Margherita a consumer buys.
