Former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, Managing Director in Impact Investment at Bain Capital, takes the stage at the first annual Best for the World Gathering at the University of California, Berkeley on September 8, 2016.

“Sustainability” is the hot C-suite buzzword on everyone’s lips. But a small group of businesspeople is quietly setting a far higher bar. They’re designing their companies not to minimize harm but to maximize their positive impacts and intentionally build a regenerative economy that operates in new and increasingly thoughtful ways.

These companies are not simply the best in the world. They are the best for the world, and that world is invited to see why on September 8, 2016 at the first annual Best for the World Gathering at the University of California, Berkeley.

Organized by B the Change Media, the leading multi-media platform for corporate-sustainability storytelling. The gathering will be held at the University of California, Berkeley, in partnership with the Haas School of Business and the Center for Responsible Business. This special event will assemble thought leaders from the world’s most innovative companies. Together, they’ll mark the new organization’s launch and explore the myriad new ways people are transforming business into a remarkable force for permanent good and successfully addressing the challenges humanity faces.

“We’re at the greatest inflection point in human history,” says B the Change CEO Bryan Welch. “It’s a time of enormous change as more and more businesspeople dare to imagine a new kind of collective prosperity created by companies whose systems and products uplift others and protect nature.

“Millennials now make up 50 percent of the global workforce, and they are, as a generation, committed to improving environmental health and creating a shared prosperity,” says Welch. “But the movement needs a forum to express its inspirations and shared perspectives — a medium to spread the tools and insights others need to create their own brands of positive change. Best for the World and B the Change Media are creating a space so that and more can be shared.”

Part celebration, part conference, the event will honor the Best for the World businesses: those companies that scored in the top 10 percent on the rigorous B Impact Assessment, which is the gold standard of corporate responsibility metrics. Attendees will hear from the stars of the conscientious business world, including Jostein Solheim, CEO of Ben & Jerry’s; Jay Coen Gilbert, Co-Founder of B Lab; writer Judy Wicks; Kim Jordan, Co-Founder of New Belgium Brewing; Jim Osgood, CEO of Klean Kanteen; comedian W. Kamau Bell; and Deval Patrick, former Governor of Massachusetts and Managing Director in Impact Investment at Bain Capital.

Along with a full slate of unique speakers and a very special Awards Ceremony, the gathering will host the first Best for the World Mentorship Conference, a forum for students and businesspeople to connect with Best for the World companies through both casual conversation and formal seminars led by influential B Corporation leaders. Ending the day with a bang will be the Party With a Purpose, a gala evening of food, performances and well-earned revelry to mark the beginning of the new business paradigm that’s remaking the world.
