 Sustainable Brands® largest community gathering kicked off with Sustainable Brands ’16 San Diego at Paradise Point Resort & Spa. Nearly 2,000 community members from 30 countries around the globe are participating in the conference, Activation Hub and live stream. This year’s theme, Activating Purpose, focuses on how companies are developing real tools, techniques, methods and models for embedding purpose into the core of a brand and finding business success. 

Nearly 250 influential brand leaders and practitioners of environmental and social innovation are sparking conversation around purpose-driven business and topics such as: understanding market trends and investor attitudes, cultivating purpose-driven leadership, influencing consumer demand and behavior in favor of sustainable consumption norms, advancing concepts such as circular economy and biomimicry, mainstreaming sustainability challenges, and unifying purpose along the whole value chain. Several companies making announcements or launching news from the conference include:

  • EY, in partnership with Sustainable Brands, announces new research insights: The ROI of Purpose in Business.

  • GlobeScan and SustainAbility, in partnership with Sustainable Brands, announces key findings in the 2016 Sustainability Leaders Survey. Integrating purpose through a common brand promise and aligning sustainability strategy with internal culture and values are key drivers of corporate leadership.

  • Kashi announces a breakthrough initiative in the organic farming industry.

  • Boy Scouts of America announces a new digital platform that elevates existing commitments to protect, respect and interact with the outdoors.

  • Toyota announces its new Plano, TX campus will receive 25% of its power from on-site solar installation. This will be the largest corporate office on-site solar installation among non-utility companies in the state of Texas.

  • GlobeScan, in partnership with Sustainable Brands, announces insights from a 25-country study on corporate purpose: The Public on Purpose

  • Forum for the Future, in partnership with BSR and SHINE launches new results and an upgraded vision and roadmap for a global Net Positive movement.

  • Cone Communications announces the 2016 Cone Communications Employee Engagement Study revealing an increased expectation for companies to provide not only basic benefits but also ones that allow employees to bring their passions for social and environmental issues to the workplace.

  • Freya Williams announces a new set of companies to add to her book, Green Giants: How Smart Companies Turn Sustainability into Billion-Dollar Businesses

  • The Renewal Workshop announces plans to partner with the world’s best-loved apparel brand and retailers to refurbish their “unsellable” returns and excel inventory.

  • Savers announces a new report examining perceptions of clothing consumption and reuse and identifying educational opportunities to change wasteful habits.

  • Sustainable Brands announces its 10 year anniversary of elevating the business case for embedding environmental and social purpose into the core of a brand. 

 

The Activation Hub at SB’16 San Diego
Hosted by BASF, the Activation Hub is designed to cultivate conversation and debate around a series of topics that mirror topmost initiatives in the full conference program. Nearly 100 interactive sessions take place in the Activation Hub this year and knowledgeable experts from organizations such as WhiteWave Foods, Nestlé, Target, Shaw Industries, Braskem, jetBlue, Deloitte, Savers, Kohler, Solar City, MBDC, The Sustainability Consortium, United Technologies, Labor Voices, YK Center, thinkstep, Source Intelligence, The Nature Conservancy and others participate by sharing their innovations and ideas in purpose. Target hosts the SB Innovation Open, Toyota features test drives of its hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and United Technologies features tours of Pratt & Whitney’s Pure Power® PW1000G Engine. 

The Activation Hub is open Monday evening from 7:00 – 9:00pm; Tuesday, June 7th and Wednesday, June 8th from 12:30pm until 7:30pm; Thursday, June 9th from 12:30 until 3:00pm. Ticket passes for the Activation Hub Only are available during these times and includes admission to conference breakout sessions in the Activating Purpose Upstream track on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoon.

Hosted by CVS Health, Sustainable Brands offers free access to 3 full days of live stream broadcast from the conference.
